Find a Cause!

Need help finding a charity to give your time to this week? Here’s all the places I got to help out in my 52 hours in 2014. The first link will take you to the organization’s home page, and the links after that are my blog entries for what I did for that charity.

Hopefully you can find a charity to help out near you on this list, or you can check out the “Nationwide” category to find the larger charities around the country, and finally, you can always help from the comfort of your own home by checking out the organizations under the “Help From Home” category.

If you can’t find one here, VolunteerMatch.org is the best resource out there for finding organizations that could use a helping hand!

Nationwide

AnySoldier.org – Put together care packages for the service men and women deployed for our country! (This took me a couple of weeks – one for collecting, then one for sending!)

Best Friends – I had a bake sale to raise funds, but you could just donate to this amazing rescue organization if you like! (My cast chowed down on all the Puppy Chow I made for the sale! So great!)

Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind – Transcribe a book and send it in to have it translated into braille! (This one took me quite a few weeks to finish, Weeks Six, Weeks 12/13, Weeks 13-20, and Weeks 20-24 to be exact… It was a long book! Sorta…)

Charity Miles – Plug this free app into your phone and turn it on while you run to raise money for your favorite charity. (This definitely motivated me to run more than usual that week!)

 2014-08-09 18.11.34Girls Scouts represent!

Girl Scout – Volunteer to be a troop leader! You get first dibs on the cookies too. Bonus! (Love my little troop!)

GoodSearch – Do good while you Google by using this search engine and raise money for your favorite charity every time you search for anything on the internet. (The little girl who inspired this one is too cute!)

Goodwill – Collect your old clothing and home goods (and your friends too!) and drop them off at Goodwill to create jobs and funds for the needy! (I got my cast to help me with this one!)

2014-01-31 21.50.45The cast helped out on this one, big time!

Meals on Wheels (Love Letters) – Send some love to the elderly and homebound with this special program through Meals on Wheels for Valentines Day! (This one took me and my cast Week 3, Week 4, and Week 5 to finish!)

Random Acts of Kindness – No limit to what you could do with this – pay for the person behind you in line, buy lunch for the homeless, smile at a stranger- they sky’s the limit! (I roped my friend Hero into this one too!)

St. Jude’s Ranch – Gather up your old greeting cards and send in the torn off fronts for the children at St. Jude’s to turn into new cards to raise funds for the program! (I can’t wait to see what they turn my cards into!)

Toys for Tots – Collect toys and drop them off for children in need for the holidays! (This went super well for our cast! And the drop off went even better!)

Boston, Massachusetts

Panera Cares – Stop in for a quick sandwich and coffee to help out this wonderful cafe that provides food and work for the homeless near the heart of downtown Boston. (And it was super yummy too!)

 2014-09-24 15.18.04Hero’s quite a chef!

On the Rise – Whip up a meal for this wonderful women’s shelter for the homeless. (I was so relieved what I made was eatable...)

Columbus, Ohio

 2014-10-29 11.12.12My (almost) kitty Mario.

Colony Cats – Help the kitties by staffing an adoption event, cleaning the litter boxes at the Colony, or even just go in and play with them to socialize them. So much fun! (I loved it both times I went! Although the second time I almost made a huge life mistake…)

Ohio House Rabbit Rescue – These bunnies could use your help by cleaning their pens and socializing with them to get them used to getting petted and handled. (This one I went to twice too! I can’t help myself- you can’t go just once!)

There you go! Now you have no excuse not to go out and help change the world for the better.
